Water Stewardship

Water is integral to fabric manufacturing, particularly across dyeing, washing and finishing. Our approach focuses on reducing freshwater use, improving efficiency and increasing recovery and reuse across our operations.

Advancing Water Stewardship

In 2020, Hayleys Fabric became the first Sri Lankan manufacturer to sign the UN Global Compact CEO Water Mandate, strengthening our approach to water stewardship across direct operations, supply chains, communities and wider stakeholder engagement.

Recovering and Reusing Water

We reclaim 24% of our total water use through recovery systems embedded across our manufacturing operations.
Key initiatives include cooling water recovery, condensate recovery, sand filter backwash recovery and sedimentation tank blowdown recovery. Recovered and treated water is returned to productive use wherever technically feasible, including within printing and finishing processes.

Managing Effluent Responsibly

Wastewater generated through manufacturing is treated through on-site effluent treatment facilities and managed in line with applicable environmental requirements and ZDHC-aligned practices.
Chemical sludge generated through treatment is directed to INSEE Cement Sri Lanka for cement kiln co-processing, supporting recovery rather than landfill disposal.
