Energy & Emissions

Hayleys Fabric Group emerged as Sri Lanka’s first fabric manufacturer to secure Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) validation for its net-zero greenhouse gas emissions targets, establishing a defined pathway aligned with limiting global warming to 1.5°C.
Our approach combines science-based emissions reduction targets with investment in renewable energy, energy-efficient technologies and continuous optimisation of our manufacturing processes.

Our Decarbonisation Pathway

Our SBTi-validated targets provide a clear pathway for reducing greenhouse gas emissions across our operations and value chain.

By 2030

  • Reduce Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42%
  • Reduce Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 25%

By 2050

  • Reduce Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 95%
  • Reduce Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 90%

Expanding Renewable Energy

We continue to increase the contribution of renewable energy across our operations through on-site solar generation and the use of biomass for thermal energy.
Our renewable energy infrastructure includes a 4.6 MW rooftop solar installation at Hayleys Fabric, a 3.6 MW installation at South Asia Textiles and a 35 kW floating solar installation.

Improving Energy Efficiency

Energy efficiency is addressed across our manufacturing processes through targeted operational and technology improvements. Key initiatives include steam and condensate recovery, insulation improvements, cooling-water recovery, optimisation of stenter operations and improved motor and equipment management.
We are also progressing the transition from heavy fuel oil to lower-impact energy sources within our thermal operations.

Measuring and Managing Performance

Our ISO 50001 Energy Management System provides a structured framework for monitoring and improving energy performance across our operations. Real-time energy monitoring supports the identification of consumption patterns, efficiency opportunities and areas requiring intervention, enabling continuous improvement in energy and emissions performance.
